From March 21 to 23, the rolling hills of Chianti welcomed athletes from all over the world, ready to take on historic and breathtaking trails—where every step was a challenge, balancing endurance and beauty. A weekend that saw the Fessura Trail Team rise with extraordinary performances, proving that the passion for trail running knows no boundaries.
FRIDAY, MARCH 21: A BRILLIANT START
The 10 km CWR Chianti Wine Run is the perfect warm-up—fast and intense, offering a taste of what’s to come in the main event of the weekend. With 400 meters of elevation gain, it’s all about speed and precision.
Alberto Mattia Perronace tackled the wet course with determination, securing an incredible 4th place overall, setting the bar high for the Fessura Trail Team. Excellent performances also came from Luca Carestia and Ecaterina Sevcenco, who approached the race with maximum dedication.
SATURDAY, MARCH 22: THE MAIN EVENT – 120KM OF PURE EPICNESS
4:00 AM. Radda in Chianti. The event’s speaker, a cornerstone of the race, concludes the classic pre-race speech with a resounding “No Surrender”, repeating it endlessly. Headlamps cut through the darkness, the relentless rain has poured all night. The atmosphere is electric.
Despite not feeling at his best the day before, Riccardo Pianesi is ready to take on the 120km UTCC Ultra Trail Chianti Castles, with 5,200 meters of elevation gain—a course as grueling as it is breathtaking. After a night spent in a camper, meticulously studying every detail of the route like a battle plan, his alarm goes off at 1:30 AM. His goal? Give it everything.
Midway through the race, passing through Castello di Meleto, the moment is spine-tingling—the Fessura Team greets him with a standing ovation. Ahead of him, legends Jim Walmsley, Kilian Jornet, and Vincent Bouillard are flying, but Riccardo holds strong and gains positions. The result? 13 hours and 23 minutes, 19th overall, 16th in his category, and 2nd Italian to cross the finish line. A testament to sheer endurance and mental fortitude.
Meanwhile, Marco Brutti takes on the 73 km CUT Chianti Ultra Trail, with 3,000 meters of elevation gain, backed by the technical support of his uncle, who assists him at every aid station. The result? A textbook 30th place—a solid, smart, and consistent race.
SUNDAY, MARCH 23: POWER MOVES & FAST PACES
The distances shorten, but the intensity remains sky-high: Sunday saw Team Fessura fielding multiple athletes in the shorter races.
The 20 km CHT Chianti Half Trail (800m elevation gain) is an explosive, technical, and blisteringly fast challenge. Giacomo Forconi delivers a stellar performance, finishing in an impressive 5th place with a time of 1 hour and 26 minutes. Just behind him, Luca Gargiulo and Andrea Tamiazzo both put in strong, stylish performances.
At 9:00 AM, the 46 km CMT Chianti Marathon Trail (1,700m elevation gain) kicks off. By now, the course is a battlefield, the terrain increasingly difficult due to the relentless pounding from previous races. Mirko Fioretti digs deep and secures 56th place, wrapping up a weekend of sheer determination—a true testament to the resilience of Fessura athletes.
